Acrobat Book Launch & Poetry Reading: Mother Tongues – Celebrating Three Generations of Poetry on World Poetry Day

  • Nehru Centre 8 South Audley Street London, England, W1K 1HF United Kingdom (map)

Nandana Dev Sen will read and discuss her translations of her mother, beloved writer Nabaneeta Dev Sen, as well as the poetic legacy of her celebrated grandmother Radharani Debi.

An adda with the audience will follow the reading, and Nandana will personalize copies of Acrobat: Poems by Nabaneeta Dev Sen, Translated by Nandana Dev Sen.

“A new collection of Nabaneeta Dev Sen’s work, translated with great felicity by her daughter Nandana, covers a spectrum of the poet’s gifts, from the playful and tender that recall Tagore, to the fierce and passionate” — Anita Desai

“Even though Nabaneetadi was a towering figure in Bengali letters, little of her work is available in English: all the more reason to be grateful to her daughter Nandana, a hugely talented writer in her own right.” — Amitav Ghosh

“It is a special gift when a great poet of the world is finally well translated. I believe that Acrobat will rescue us and be loved around the world.” — Gloria Steinem

Nandana Dev Sen has authored eight books (translated into sixteen languages) and starred in twenty international feature films. The winner of multiple academic, literary, advocacy and best actress awards, Nandana is Child Protection Ambassador for Save the Children India, Author Advocate for Room to Read, and a Director of the Women’s Refugee Commission.
